A snorkelling program for Indigenous youth and youth at risk

Clear Water Dreaming© aims to use the positive and enjoyable hands-on fun experience of snorkeling as a means of engaging Indigenous Youth and Youth at Risk in learning about all aspects of snorkeling. Once the Program is completed, students will have the option of mentoring students in future classes.

Skill development will include students building good working relationships with the instructor and fellow students. They will also have the opportunity of accessing the wider world of snorkeling by joining a Snorkeling group after the Program.

The project aims to provide a positive snorkeling experience for Indigenous Youth and Youth at Risk In the process young people will develop the skills needed to:
1. Competently understand the ocean and the dangers surrounding it.
2. Work individually and in small groups
3. Listen to and understand instructions
4. Be organized and on time
5. Accept responsibility for the security of equipment
6. Enjoy learning

The program will be run during the warmer months of the year.

The value of this project
This project will show young people that snorkeling can be a very exciting and fun activity where you can meet and socialize with your friends while experiencing the joy and thrills of looking around under water. After the project is completed the young people will turn to the older people in the community to support opportunities to Snorkel in organized events.
